A Proposal of an Access Persistence Protocol over Data Wireless Networks

This paper considers the MAC layer in General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) system. We present the MAC procedures used to enable multiple mobile stations to share a common transmission medium that may contains many radio physical channels. This layer makes use of slotted ALOHA protocol combined with a specific retransmission mechanism in order to establish the physical connection. The access persistence control procedure, which is the principal subject of this paper, is described and analyzed. The number of retransmission attempts requested to successfully transmits the access request and the delay of transmission are calculated. In this paper, A complementary access persistence control mechanism is proposed in order to improve the performance of MAC layer. The new proposal additional mechanism permits to avoid the mixture of retransmitted access request and the new ones. Consequently, it decreases the number of transmission attempts needed to successfully transmit an access request. Thus, it reduces the transmission delay of one access request and the access requests blocking percent.
